Green Month | Talks, Seminars and Workshops |26 September - 2 October 2011

Dr Wong Tuck Meng from Malaysia Timber Council, will be conducting a talk on "Going Green with Timber".

Topic: Going Green with Timber
Date: 28 September 2011
Venue: KBU International College (Level 7, Lecture Theater 1)
Time: 10am

A short discription about the talk:

Will I contribute to the destruction of the environment if I use timber? With all the outcry to stop logging and save the forest, we maintain that timber is the most environmentally-friendly building material. Sustainably harvested timber, when compared to other building materials, has a very small carbon footprint. It takes a lot less energy to create building material from timber than it does from other manufactured building products.

Wood is inherently “green”, renewable, non-toxic, energy-efficient to grow and manufacture, as well as recyclable and biodegradable.
This Talk aims to inspire you with the green credentials of timber and dispel the myths and misperceptions about using timber. It will reveal how these misconceptions came about and what are the real facts and figures behind using timber. In fact, you will be surprised to learn that using timber actually contributes to the health of the environment.
Getting to know Dr. Wong Tuck Meng

In 1986, he joined the Forestry Department of Brunei Darussalam, where he was tasked with the responsibility for the reviving of the timber industry in the country. To this end, he introduced appropriate technology to stimulate the industry, organised a quality assurance scheme, and set up a quality control laboratory for treated products.
In 1988, he was elevated to the post of Senior Forestry Officer and his duties increased to cover the planning of strategies for the Department. He was involved in the preparation of the National Forestry Policy, the Strategic Plan for Forestry and the future development of the timber industry in Brunei.
